POLICE sub-inspector Sunil Shivaji Bhat attached with Azad Maidan Police Station, was arrested on Monday by Anti Corruption bureau, (ACB), Mumbai along with a private person Atiullah Noor Ali Shaikh for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a businessman.
According to press note issued by ACB, Bhat who is the investigation officer had booked the son of the imitation jewellery businessman last year under section of 324, 34 of the IPC at Azad Maidan Police Station, but the charge sheet in the case was not yet filed.
As the son wanted to apply for his passport to travel abroad for business development purpose, he approached Bhat to put up the charge sheet in the matter on urgent basis, he agreed to file the charge sheet in return for money.
Bhat then directed the businessman to give Rs 5000 to Shaikh. On Monday Shaikh was caught red handed by ACB sleuths while accepting the bribe. After his arrest he confessed that he was working on behalf of Bhat. ACB sleuths also arrested to the Shaikh.
The case is being probed further by police officials.
