A SHIVSENA Corporator from Kalyan and two others, including a civic engineer, were arrested on Thursday by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Thane for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from a woman for not razing her shop.

After arrest ACB officials searches/raids houses of the accused deputy engineer Datttray Laxman Mastud and was shocked. Officials recovered 742 gm gold ornaments, Rs 5,69, 327 deposited in three banks account, eight flats on name of his, wife at Pune, Navi Mumbai, Dombivali and Kalyan, one car and one scooty.

According to press note issued by ACB, arrested accused identified as Vidyadhar Govind Bhoir, a Corporator of Ward No-21, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Dattatray Laxman Mastud, Deputy Engineer, B-Ward, KDMC and Vilas Pandurang Kadu, a peon of the KDMC.

The accused were produced in court where judge remanded them in police custody till April 21.

The complainant Ritu Kishor Bhatia owns a 2,500 sq ft shop in Kalyan. The accused approached him saying that the shop was on an encroached land and it will soon be demolished. In order to save the shop he will have to pay them a bribe of Rs. 11 lakhs. The complainant stroke a bargain with them which led to the decrease in the bribe amount to Rs. 8 lakhs, out of which 4 lakhs were to be given to the Corporator and the remaining were to be given to the engineer and peon.

In the meantime, the woman lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap.  On April 17, officials arrested the Bhoir while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 4 lakhs in the office of ward No. 21 around 8:50 pm. Later other two accused were arrested from the B-ward.

The officials of ACB Thane unit have urged to the citizens that if any Government official demands a bribe they can contact the Anti-Corruption Bureau in their Thane office on Telephone No.: 022-25427979 or on Mobile no. 7738903380/ 9969771911.
