A legal notice has been issued to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, Everest Masala, YouTube and a media house by the Bar Council of Delhi for using a lawyer’s attire in an advertisement.
As per the notice, the respondents have failed to take necessary precautions before using a lawyer’s attire in the advertisement and are hence liable for legal action for telecasting the same without any authority. In the commercial, Mr. Bachchan is wearing a lawyer’s suit and is sitting in his dressing room while two junior artists enter and offer him Pav Bhaji which he later praises the along with the spices used in its preparation.
The notice has further asked the respondents to immediately stop all such advertisements and give an undertaking to the Bar Council of Delhi, Bar Council of India, and other states Bar Councils that the lawyers’ attire will not be used in any advertisement in future. The Bar Council has also asked the respondents to furnish the undertaking within 10 days, failing which action will be taken against them.
Earlier in a similar situation, a jewellery advertisement was withdrawn which featured Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter Shweta Bachchan after a legal action was threatened against them for depicting bank employees in a negative manner.
