THE Indian Army commemorated its 69th Army Day with traditional solemnity and gaiety all across the country, marking the recognition of taking over the reins of our country’s Army by General (Later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa from General Sir FRR Butcher, the last British Commander in Chief of India on January 15, 1949.

On this occasion, Major General Anuj Mathur, Officiating General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area and other officers laid wreaths at the Kangra Udyan War Memorial at Colaba and paid homage to our valiant martyrs. This was followed by a special Sainik Sammelan at Army Auditorium Hall, Colaba where the Officiating General Officer Commanding addressed all Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers & other ranks and lauded their good work and efforts. He explained the importance of this ‘Red letter Day’ and stressed on the vital role of Indian Army in Nation building. He also reminded everyone to pay homage and reverence to our brave Martyrs who gave the ultimate sacrifice by laying down their lives for the nation. The sainik sammelan was followed by an interaction of the General Officer with the troops.
