congress-logo

A Pune based Right to Information (RTI) activist Hemant Patil on Thursday filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Bombay High Court urging to ban the “Hand” symbol of Congress party. Patil claims that it is very much similar to the logo of Maharashtra Police.

According to Patil common man would get an impression that the Congress was in fact Maharashtra police and was protecting them while maintaining law and order. However, the symbol was allotted by Election Commission of India, claiming that it was strikingly similar to the logo of Maharashtra Police, hence the Congress party should be restrained from using this.

Patil has made the respondents to Chief Election Commissioner, Government of India, Government of Maharashtra, President/Secretary of All India Congress Party and Chief Secretary, Home.

The petition is expected to come up for hearing next week.
