THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge JPS Malik in Delhi on Tuesday cancelled the bail of journalist Mathew Samuel who is facing trial under the Officials Secrets Act (OSA). Samuel allegedly procured documents and uploaded them on a news portal.

Samuel worked with news portal tehelka.Com. Samuel, who was earlier granted bail, was produced in the court by police in pursuance to the arrest warrant issued against him on October 13. The Judge remanded him to judicial custody till Nov 21, saying there was no justification in releasing him on bail again.

According to media reports, CBI has chargesheeted Samuel with the then Tehelka editor (Investigations) Aniruddh Bahal, and the then home ministry officials Thomas Mathew and Neeraj Kumar, and Buffalo Networks, which owned the website, for alleged violation of the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

CBI had alleged that Kumar, Thomas, Bahal and Samuel entered into a criminal conspiracy to obtain secret documents, which were exhibited on news portal Tehelka.Com on October 9, 2000.
