THE congress corporator Mihirkant Mishra from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh on Monday has been shot dead, media reports. Mishra’s family members alleged that Mihirkant was killed for opposing gambling and illegal liquor vends in some villages.
According to police the incident took place late Monday in Deoria. Mishra was on his way to the tehsil town. Six unidentified assailants fired at him. Mishra was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctor declared him dead before admission.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified angry relatives and supporters of the corporator. Police are probing the case.
