EIGHT coaches of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express on Thursday derailed in neighbouring Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh leaving 52 passengers injured. The cause of derailment is yet to be ascertained.

The incident which took place at 2:07 AM. Around eight coaches from the rear side of the train derailed between Mahoba and Kulpahar stations.

The official said an accident relief train has also been rushed to the site and the injured have been given first-aid. The Railways has started helplines at Jhansi, Gwalior, Mathura, Kanpur, Allahabad, Banda, Nizamuddin and New Delhi stations to disseminate information to the relatives of the passengers.

Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said derailment will be probed, adding that a financial aid of Rs 50,000 each for the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to a person with minor injury.

Mahoba chief medical officer SK Varshney said 52 people were injured in the accident. Nine people with minor injuries were provided treatment at the spot. Forty-three were transported to hospitals, officials said. The Mahakaushal Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh is the eighth train accident since October last year.
