IN one of the most shocking display of apathy and negligence, Mawa Cakes past their expiry date were found stocked in Food Bazaar, situated at Home Town Shopping Mall, LBS Marg, Vikhroli. Anil Chauhan, a businessman from Vikhroli West, was shocked when he found the stock of expired Mawa Cakes while shopping at Food Bazaar. However what was more shocking was the extremely casual and negligent attitude of the Store Manager of Food Bazaar, who non chalantly said ‘kabhi kabhi ho jata hai’. The tone and behaviour of the store manager was unapologetic.

According to Chauhan, aged 30, he purchased a Mawa Cake (SDO – Fresh) worth Rs 130, for his Nephew, Om Chauhan on 23rd June 2017. However to his shock, after reaching home, when he checked the packaging, the cake was already expired. The packaging said ‘best before 20-06-2017’.

The next day, Chauhan went back to Food Bazaar ti complain about the expired product and was shocked and disturbed by the attitude of the store manager who said ‘kabhi kabhi ho jata hai’. When Chauhan said that he will complain at the police station as well as BMC Health Department against Food Bazaar, the Manager did not react and took the whole issue very lightly.

“Jab maine manager ko bataya ki aapne mujhe expired mawa de diya hai to usne bade halke andaaz me kaha ki, “kabhi kabhi ho jata hai.” Jab maine us se kaha ki main tumhare khilaf BMC, Police aur consumer court me complaint karunga to wo halke se muskaraya aur chup raha,” said Chauhan.

Such behaviour from the Store Manager of Food Bazaar is shocking especially for perishable products such as sweets and cakes, which are often meant to be consumed by children and can have detrimental impact on their health.
