Additional Director General of police (Special Operations) and secretary of Indian Police Service (IPS) Association, Prem Krishna Jain alias P K Jain has reportedly tendered his resignation from the police service on Friday.
Shockingly, Jain was due to retire from service next week. He was also a contender for the post of recently filled Mumbai police commissioner. Jain a 1980 batch officer is a very clean image officer. He has exposed corruption in police department several times.
Speaking to ABI Jain confirmed about his resignation. He also confirmed that henceforth he will be involved as a social activist, also he has kept the option of joining a political party open.
The State Government has not accepted his resignation. “I will meet Home Minster RR Patil on Monday,” said Jain. Former Mumbai police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh had resigned from his post and joined BJP recently. After Singh’s resignation Rakesh Maria had been appointed the Police Commissioner Mumbai Police.
His elevation to the top post has caused a lot of discontent in Mumbai police ranks. Several officers feel that the promotion was not as per criteria of seniority in service. As per sources some senior officers have abstained from taking their new charge as a mark of showing their resentment
Additional Director General of police (Establishment) Ahmed Javed is also unhappy with state government. Currently he is on leave. Ahmed, an officer with a very clean image was also a contender for the job of Mumbai police commissioner.
