ANIL Powar, Senior Inspector with Mahatma Fule Chowk (MFC) police station in Kalyan (West) is again in news but for wrong reason. Instead of taking FIR he held a complainant as hostage in police station for one and half hour and taking advantage of that an ex-ACP’s goons seized on his hotel.
The incident took place on June 22, 2017 at M/s Hotel Abhishek situated near Roshan petrol pump, Murbad Road, Kalyan (West). The hotel’s sole proprietor Mahendra Vasant Darekar (49) was doing administrative work in hotel. Normally hotel is not serving liquor due to the imposition of ban on selling liquor within 500 meters from highways. Around 12 noon more than 20 to 25 men entered the hotel. They abused, threatened and slapped Mahendra and threw him out of hotel. He failed to understand what is happening. Why they were misbehaving with him. He called police control room number 100 but failed to reach.
Mahendra rushed to Mahatma Fule Chowk police station to lodge complaint. But no police officer took cognizance of him. He tried to explain his problem but officials asked him to shut up. “Jab- jab maine apni problem batane ki koshish ki to wo kahte chup rahkar side me baithe raho. Samay milega to tumhari complaint lenge,” said Mahendra.
Mahendra was much shocked when he saw former assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Vikas Maruti Gopale sitting in Senior Inspector Anil Powar’s cabin. Gopale was also present outside hotel sitting in his car. Every time when Mahendra tried to register his complaint he was asked to “wait.” He was kept on waiting for more than one and half hour but police did not register his complaint. “Main samajh gaya ki Gopale ne MFC police station set kar liya hai,” said Mahendra.
Mahendra returned at hotel but found it locked with new locks.
The story
Vikas Gopale is real brother-in-law of Mahendra Darekar. Hotel Abhishek’s (land’s) owner is Neelima Gopale who is real sister of Mahendra and wife of Vikas Gopale. Mahendra is running hotel since 1992, pan shop since 1995 and bar and permit room since April 1993. In the first week of March 2017 Neelima and Gopale visited Hotel Abhishek and fraudulently took with them some file and original documents of hotel. On March 25, 2017 Neelima called Mahendra at her home and asked him to pay rent of Rs 50,000 per month from April 1, 2017 which Mahendra refused.
On several occasions Neelima, Gopale and their goons threatened Mahendra to vacate the hotel otherwise they will break his legs, hands and will take forceful possession of the hotel.
Every time Mahendra approached MFC police station but police refused to take complaint claiming matter is civil in nature and suggested to approach civil court.
With no option left Mahendra knocked on the door of court. On June 15, 2017 Kalyan court ordered “maintain status quo.”Court order copy is available with ABI (abinet.org). Besides it disobeying the court order Gopale forcibly dispossessed Mahendra and seized on hotel.
Gopale was ACP in Maharashtra State Police department but recently opted for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS). He was known as controversial officer while in department. He runs Neelam Orchestra and Bar infront of Kalyan (West) railway station. He frequently run dance shows in Neelam Bar. As he served in Kolsewadi police station, Kalyan (East), Bazarpeth police station, Kalyan (West) and Manpada police station in Dombivali (East) is expert in managing police station.
“I will file suit against Anil Powar and also contempt of court against Gopale and Neelima,” said Mahendra.
