PLASTIC has been a big issue for Mumbaikars even after it has been banned. As there are no proper recycling or reusing mechanism for plastic and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not been able to curb its usage, it has come up with yet another solution. BMC is all set to pave the roads of Mumbai by recycling plastic waste.Â
The harmful effects of plastic on marine life are known to all. Plastic even aggravates air, water and land pollution. Moreover, the financial capital faces a flood-like situation every year due to clogged drains. In order to curb all this, the BMC authorities along with BMC Chief Engineer Sanjay Darade will implement using recycled plastic for making roads.
Experiments on plastic roads had been underway for the past few months, however, the civic authorities are all set with the necessary permissions and plan for making roads with recycled plastic. Currently, roads are either made of concrete or tar. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had stated earlier this month that he will ensure complete concretisation of all roads in Mumbai in order to avoid potholes.Â
