IN yet another blunder, Amazon, having vision to be Earth’s most customer centric company; delivered a second-hand mobile phone instead of a brand new smartphone to one of its Ulhasnagar customers. As if that were not enough, the second-hand handset was full of porn movies and photographs.

Jarnail Singh Sandhu (40), a resident of C-Block, Ulhasnagar-1, had ordered online the Micromax Yureka smart phone (price Rs 9,000) through Amazon a few months ago. Sandhu got a rude shock when he opened the package. The mobile piece was faulty. There were white dots on the screen. Sandhu contacted the company’s customer care and was told that it was not a major fault and after some time the problem would go away automatically.

But Sandhu found that the dots kept increasing. Last week he again contacted and complained to the customer care. The customer care people suggested that the handset be deposited to the service centre in Kalyan. It also promised delivery of a shiny new smartphone to Sandhu’s home soon.

On February 1, 2016, Sandhu received the mobile phone packet. With much excitement he began unwrapping it to lay his hands on his new smartphone, but to his shock and anguish, the package contained an old handset instead of a brand new one.

Sandhu was in for another shock when he found that the handset had been used so much by someone that it even had lots of porn movies and photographs. One of the porn movies was from Punjab in which a Senior Police Inspector has sex with his female constable. This video had been viral on social media last year.

Sandhu immediately contacted customer care and toll free numbers of Micromax, India’s largest home-bred handset maker. The customer care person repeated the same things, asking Sandhu to deposit the handset at the service centre in Kalyan and wait for a replacement.

“Customer care phone attend karne wale ne kaha ki main ye samajh sakta hun ki aap par kya beet rahi hai. Aap hamare Kalyan ke service centre pe jama kar do, hum jaldi hi naya handset replace kar denge,” said Sandhu.
Sandhu rushed to the service centre, Ashtvinayak Mobiservice, Archies Apartment, station road, Kalyan (West), but all in vain. The service Centre man told Sandhu to go anywhere and complain as much as he wanted, now nothing would be done.

“I will knock on the doors of the consumer court soon,” said Sandhu.
“I am not an authority. I run pick-up service only. I am not responsible for the change of handset. I cannot do anything. Contact to Amazon or Micromax Company,” said Naresh Patkande, owner of Mobiservice.
