Rural Development Minister and senior BJP leader from Maharashtra Gopinath Munde today died here in a road accident.
64-year-old Munde was on his way to airport when his car was hit by another vehicle at around 6:30 a.m. at Prithviraj road-Tughlak road roundabout in the heart of the capital, said Union Minster Nitin Gadkari.
He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead around 7:50, said Gadkari.
A pall of gloom descended on this town in Beed district of Marathwada region as news of the demise of its most illustrious son Gopinath Munde trickled here this morning.
People came onto the streets in small groups as news of the accident spread.
Many prayed on the roads, including the senior BJP leader’s supporters from the minority community. (Agencies)
