THE officials of anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Mumbai have arrested a sales tax officer, attached with Sales Tax Bhavan, Mazgaon for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

According to press note issued by ACB office, the accused is identified as Shivshankar Hanumant Gaikwad.

The complainant owns a business of clothing garments. In the month of April Gaikwad visited the factory of complainant and asked him to meet him at the sales tax office with annual tax documents. On April 28, 2014 businessman met Gaikwad at sales tax office, Mazgaon. After scrutinizing the documents Gaikwad found that factory was in the name of complainant’s wife but the complainant was signing on invoice form.

For this Gaikwad demanded Rs 10,000 bribe for not taking action on businessman and his wife and also for not cancelling the issued bills. Helpless the complainant gave Rs 5,000 to Gaikwad. Later Gaikwad asked the complainant to meet him with his wife, Rs 5,000 and tax documents. This time complainant had no wish to pay the bribe. On May 26, 2014 he approached ACB headquarter, Worli and registered an FIR against Gaikwad.

As per directions of ACB officials on May 27, 2014 complainant met Gaikwad at sales tax office. After a bargain that struck between the two, Gaikwad agreed to accept Rs 4,000. On May 28, 2014 ACB officials laid a trap and arrested Gaikwad while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.
