DELHI’s Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Sayed Ahmed Bukhari recently named his son Shaban Bukhari as his successor. Surprisingly he has invited Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on his named ceremony but he ignored his own Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the event.
According to media reports, Sayed Ahmed Bukhari has appointed his 19-year-old son Shaban Bukhari as the ‘Nayab Shahi Imam’ (Vice Imam).
Remember, from nearly 400 years, Imamat of the Jama Masjid has been continuing in the same family from generation to generation.
Shaban will take over the mantle from his father at a ceremony on November 22.
Shaban Bukhari is pursuing Bachelors in Social Work.
For the ceremony, the Shahi Imam has sent out 1,000 invitations to several Indian and foreign political leaders, and others. Though, he has sent out invites to several ministers, including Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Rajnath Singh and Dr Harsh Vardhan.
Bukhari says Indian Muslims have still not been able to relate themselves with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bukhari alleged that Modi has been accused of playing a role in the 2002 Gujarat riots but has been exonerated by various courts and investigating agencies.
