THE Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai have arrested Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Deepak Vasantrao Tonde and Constable Ramakant Shantaram Revandkar of Malwani police station for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the complainant.

According to ACB officials, the complainant is a dealer of scarp articles.Ā  His father had registered two FIRs in August 2013 against a Punjab based businessman for cheating. Tonde was the investigation officer. Tonde allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant to go to Punjab and investigate the matter. Helpless complainant on June 16, 2014 gave Rs. 10,000 to Tonde.

On June 22, 2014, Tonde called complainant and informed that they are in Jalandhar, Punjab. Tonde told complainant that hotel bill of Rs. 10,000 should be paid by him. Having no wish to pay the hotel expenses, the complainant registered an FIR against Tonde on June 23, 2014 with the anti-corruption bureau.

As per guidance of Tonde on June 24, 2014 complainant deposited Rs. 14, 883 in Jalandhar, Ladowadi Road branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce in the account of the hotel employee Ram Singh.

On June 30, 2014, Tonde and Revandkar came back to Mumbai from the Golden Temple train. As they got down at Borivali railway station, ACB officials arrested them.
