Delhi based Dr Couple Nupur and Rajesh Talwar have approached Bombay High Court pleading for stay on release of the film Rahasya.
It may be recalled that on May 15 and 16 , 2008, the couple’s daughter Arashui and their domestic help Hemraj were found dead in their Delhi house, the couple was convicted on murder charges and are currently serving their term of life imprisonment pronounced by the sessions court Gaziabad, their appeal against this conviction pending before the Allahabad court .
On February 17, the Talwars sent a legal notice to Gupta and UVI Films Production Ltd seeking private screening of the movie but did not get any response following which they petitioned the high court.
The movie Rahasya directed by Manish Gupta has been accorded U/A certification by CBFC, the Talwar’s in their prayer have expressed fear that the movie is based on “distorted facts surrounding the gruesome death” of their daughter Aarushi , “It would paint the petitioners in the wrong light and would be defamatory,” the petition said. Hence they have approached the High Court to seek a stay on release of the movie
A division bench of Justices V M Kanade and G S Kulkarnitoday posted the petition for hearing on March 4. Talwars have said that the whole case is subjudice as their appeal against their conviction is pending with the high court. The Talwar’s claim that Gupta nor the producer has not sought their prior consent for making the movie based on their daughter’s murder.
