AN under trial prisoner, did what actor Dharmendra did in the 1975 blockbuster movie “Sholay”, on Wednesday morning inside Adharwadi jail in Kalyan. The under trial, climbed up the water tanks inside jail to show his protest, against the police, for not being produced in the court since the last 18 months.

According to jail sources an accused Harbansh Singh at around 10am climbed up the water tank inside jail. A chaos spread in jail officials. He got down after troubling the police for more than one hour.

Harbansh Singh who has been kept in circle no-6 in jail hails from Chandigarh, Punjab.

One and half year back, he had gone to offer prayers in Nanded gurudwara, Maharashtra. From there he came to Mumbai to meet his friend. The government railway police (GRP) arrested him and sent him Aadharwadi jail.

The reason for his arrest is still unknown, but Harbansh said that one more accused (Maharashtrian) was arrested with him but he was released just the next day. Since then he has been kept in Aadharwadi jail. The jail authorities never produced him in court.

You can say that the inspiration for the water tank protests came from the Dharmendra’s act in ‘Sholay’. Co-incidentally Dharmendra also belongs to Punjab.

Speaking to ABI jail officials confirmed about incident.

“But little later he came down as we assured him that he will be produced in court on next date. We have shortage of staff. So we failed to produce prisoners in court”, said an official on condition of anonymity.

Its a very good coverage.. kam se kam ab Harbansh Singh ko nyaay to milega.. yahan bhi wahi hua hai jo parprantiyo ke sath hota hai.. kuchh mutthi bhar marathi logon ke sath hi maharashtra ki police bhi pakshpaat karti hai.. yah ekdam sahi aur pramaanit baat hai..
