A woman from Greater Noida has been arrested for allegedly threatening and blackmailing a man to implicate him in a false rape case if he does not pay INR 10 Lakhs to her.
According to the Police, the accused was arrested on Sunday, after the incident was reported from Lakhnawali village, under Surajpur Police Station. The accused and complainant were friends for some time and the woman had asked for money on several occasions after stating various reasons.
The Police was approached by the complainant on October 11, who stated that the woman had demanded INR 10 Lakhs from him and had also blackmailed to falsely implicate him in a rape case if he did not pay the money.
A complaint was lodged and the matter was probed, following which an investigation was conducted during which text messages that were shared between the two were also reviewed, stated SHO Muneesh Chauhan.
The accused has been charged under Section 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment of life, etc), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation), under the Indian Penal Code.
The woman was produced in the court, which remanded her judicial custody.
