ON the 45th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak War; a Wreath Laying ceremony was organized on December 16, 2016 by the Indian Army at Major RR Rane, PVC Memorial Park at Colaba, Mumbai to honour the 3800 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice to achieve this glorious victory. Brigadier JC Talukdar, the Station Commander laid the wreath in a somber ceremony, which included parading of Guard of Honour, sounding of Last Post by Buglers and observing of two minutes of silence.

16th December is celebrated as Vijay Diwas every year, to commemorate the resounding victory over Pakistan which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh on the Eastern Front and the capture of over 15,000 square kilometers of territory on the Western Front. During the war Indian Army displayed superior fighting skills and innumerable acts of valour, resulting in the humiliating defeat of the Pakistan Armed Forces in just 14 days and the surrender of over 93,000 of its soldiers.
