PYDHONIE police in South Mumbai on January 29, 2018 arrested Irshad Lakdawala for attacking Abdul Majid Coatwala. Lakdawala’s son Umair, brother Anjum and five others are absconding into the matter.
On January 24, 2018 Pydhonie police had registered FIR (CR No- 16/2018) against Irshad Lakdawala, his son Umair, brother Anjum Lakdawala, Arfat, Firoz and two others under sections 141, 143, 146, 147, 149, 323, 325, 504 and 506 of IPC. Since then Lakdawala was absconding. On Monday police arrested him and produced him before Sewree court where he was granted on bail.
According to FIR, Abdul Coatwala (59), a resident of Kambekar street, Pydhonie is a businessman and co-producer of Bollywood movie Malamaal featuring Naseeruddin Shah. He is also trustee of Cutchi Memon Jamat Trust. The accused Irshad Lakdawala is a trustee of Zakaria Masjid Trust and also vice president of Cutchi Memon Jamat Trust. On January 24, 2018 around 9pm there was a managing committee meeting in Cutchi Memon Community Hall (Jamatkhana), Kambekar street, Pydhonie. Cutchi Memon Jamat Trust president Irfan Dadani raised questions for suspension of Tanveer Mandiwala for his indecent behavior. Abdul Coatwala also raised questions that if Mandiwala will be suspended then why not Irshad Lakdawala.
Irshad Lakdawala has a history of misbehaving with trustees. A heated argument ensued among the trustees. Irshad called his brother Anjum (trustee of Ismail Habib Masjid), son Umair, Arfat, Feroz Sota and five others on phone to teach lesson to Coatwala. Coatwala was returning after Namaz when Irshad and his associates attacked him. Coatwala fell down. The accused thrashed him badly with legs and hands and he suffered serious injuries. Coatwala’s relative Nadeem Patel interrupted and saved him. On complaint of Coatwala Pydhonie police registered FIR against accused.
Irshad Lakdawala has a criminal record. There are two FIRs registered against him in Dongri police station. Two years back he trashed Abdul Wahid Paperwala and senior citizen Abdul Kayyum Jarodarwala in separate incidents. He has also threatened Rizwan Coatwala on social media, then acting president of Cutchi Memon Jamat Trust over his popularity. Few years back a FIR has been also registred against him in Pydhonie police station.
