THE Indian Army commemorated its 46th Vijay Diwas with traditional solemnity and gaiety all across the country today. In Mumbai, Lt Gen Vishwambhar Singh, General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra Gujarat & Goa Area and Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks of Military Station, Colaba, laid wreaths at Major RR Rane, PVC memorial park and paid homage to our valiant martyrs. Subsequently, the General addressed all Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers & Other Ranks. He highlighted the important events of 1971 Indo-Pak War and how due to sound planning, preparation and effective training we were able to achieve victory with minimum casualties. He urged everyone to train hard and strive for excellence in all fields to protect our motherland and bring laurels to the nation which will be a tribute to all Martyrs who gave the ultimate sacrifice by laying down their lives for the Nation.

The eve of Vijay Diwas was also celebrated by conduct of an event “UMANG” which was organised by ‘Veer Senani Foundation’ at Colaba Military Station, to pay homage to the Martyrs and Veterans of 1971 Indo-Pak War. General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra Gujarat & Goa Area was the Chief Guest & the event was attended by large number of veterans & serving personnel with their families. Colonel Suhas Jatkar (Retd), Director, Dept of Sainik Welfare Board, Mr Vithal Kamat, Chairperson Orchids and Dr Bharat Balvalli, Prominent Singer were also present. During the function 07 Veterans of 1971 Indo-Pak war, two Veer Naris namely Smt Harshada Milind Khairnar w/o Late Sgt Milind Kishor Khairnar (617 Garud Flight) and Smt Poonam Subash Karade w/o Late Havildar Subash Lalasaheb Karade (120 Engineer Regiment) were felicitated. The grand event culminated with a musical tribute by some prominent singers to the Martyrs and their families.
