THE standup comedian Kapil Sharma has been booked under the Environment Protection Act and the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act on Wednesday. Sharma has been booked for allegedly dumping the debris near mangroves behind his bungalow in suburban Versova and also making illegal construction near it.

According to the media report, Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Amitabh A. Panchbhai ordered for the FIR on a plea filed by RTI activist Santosh Daundkar through lawyers Abha Singh and Aditya Pratap. The magistrate directed Versova police to register an FIR against Kapil Sharma under section 187 of the Indian Penal code for alleged violation of the Environment Act.

The BMC, however, alleged that Sharma had flouted norms not only in his Versova office building but also at his apartment in suburban Goregaon.

Earlier, the BMC had issued notice to Sharma and Irrfan Khan under section 351 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, claiming that certain constructions in the 18-storey residential building ‘DLH Enclave’ in Goregaon, in which the actors have flats, were illegal and hence will have to be razed.

35-year-old Sharma, in September this year had kicked up a controversy by alleging that he was asked to pay Rs. 5 lakh as bribe by an official of the civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to go ahead with the construction at his house in Andheri’s Versova. Sharma had also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet which read, “I am paying Rs 15 cr income tax from last 5 year n still i have to pay Rs 5 lakhs bribe to BMC office for making my office.
