INDIA TV reporter Sudhir Shukla in Mumbai was allegedly attacked by around eight passengers inside a local train on the Western Railway line here Wednesday morning. Sudhir Shukla sustained injuries in the attack that took place between Mira Road and Andheri railway stations.

According to Shukla a a group of passengers standing on the foot-board of the local train, tried to stop him from boarding the Andheri-bound train at Mira Road, saying that there was no space but the Shukla managed to get inside the train.

Shukla then contacted the Government Railway Police who later took him to the Cooper Hospital for treatment. Subsequently, he recorded his statement and filed an FIR by the Andheri GRP. Now teams have been formed to scan CCTV footage from stations between Mira Road and Andheri to arrest them.

The Mumbai Press Club and the Mumbai crime reporters’ association have condemned the incident. Minister of state for home, Ranjit Patil, tweeted that a probe had been instituted. Leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil tweeted that the culprits be brought to book immediately.

Police officials are waiting for the journalist to get well to start the identification process.
