IF you want to listen a humour on Mumbai’s law and order you should meet Avinash Dharmadhikari, Senior Inspector with Sakinaka police station. In a RTI query he reveals that a local OPA Bar and Café does not possess a single license but Dharmadhikari does not have guts to take action against the bar.
On February 14, 2017 ABI (Akela Bureau of Investigation) published an article under headline, “OPA!’ pub does roaring business without a single licence.”
The article was based on a reply on January 20, 2017 by the Sakinaka police on a RTI query by Amit Tiwari, president, student wing of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Mumbai. The police maintained that ‘OPA! Bar and Café’ has no requisite licences, like public programme licence, performance licence, fire brigade NOC and entertainment licence IPRS. Amazingly, the pub has remained active and gives two hoots for the BMC, law and order or the Mumbai police.
The article does not shamed management of OPA pub or Mumbai police once praised as India’s Scotland Yard. In turn pub runs till 6 am without any obstacles. It proved that OPA pub owner and conductor have pocketed Mumbai police, BMC and politicians. It is much possible when officer like Avinash Dharmadhikari is handling the police station. It is also shameful for the department whose head Datta Padsalgikar is an upright and disciplined officer.
Rumours
After ABI (abinet.org) published article lots of rumour were spread in city.
1- Karuna Shetty owner of OPA pub approached former finance minister and ‘Online Lottery Scam” fame Jayant Patil. Patil transferred matter to NCP Mumbai president Sachin Ahir who in turn ordered RTI applicant Amit Tiwari to keep mum.
2- Rajhans Singh and Rahul Shewale have partnership in Peninsula Grand hotel, OPA Bar and Café. That is reason politicians are being managed.
3- Karuna paid huge amount and managed Akela, editor Investigation ABI, as he (Karuna) has also pocketed few top journalists.
4- Akela avoids publishing follow up news as Parvat Shetty, one of the managers, threatened to file defamation case in Bengaluru on ABI. (Bangalore me kuchh faltu advocate baithe hain jo ABI pe defamation kar denge. Akela darr gaya aur ab follow nahin karega).
5- Akela was attacked by Karuna’s goons and he is hospitalised.
6- Karuna has hotels in Dubai also. Few IPS, Politicians, BMC officials and bureaucrats visit regularly there. Karuna WELCOMES and OBLIGES them.
7- More than 450 customer visits OPA pub and its per day income is Rs 6 lakh.
