Marathi film actress Pooja Sawant is to be honoured with prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The bubbly and colourful actress Pooja Sawant’s last movie ‘LAPACHAPI’ was a runaway box-office hot and earned her accolades for her brilliant acting. Her perfomance was appreciated at both National and International level, and the movie as well as Sawant won many awards. So Dadasaheb Phalke Award is another feather to her cap. Dadasaheb Phalke, credited with creating Indian Cinema, as we know it today. The award in his honour, Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the most prestigious award in Marathi Cinema. It will be awarded on Dadasaheb Phalke’s 149th Death Anniversary, 21st April, at St. Andrews Auditorium in Bandra.

Before this award, LAPACHAPI has also won 16 other awards internationally. Pooja Sawant herself received a Golden Carlton Award at ‘Edinburgh Festival of Indian Films & Documentaries’ for best performance in a lead role. Pooja Sawant has acted in many movies and is known for her depiction of complex characters and roles. Some of her notable movies are ‘Shraavanqueen’, Shranbhar Vishranti’, ‘Satrangi Re’, Poster Boys’, ‘Jhakaas’, ‘Neelkanth Master’, ‘Dagdi Chawl’ and ‘Bhetli tu Punha’. Her acting skills and her characters have won many hearts wordwide. Her passion for acting, couple with her beauty, has made her one of the most liked and adored actress in Marathi movie industry.
