THE DB Marg Police in South Mumbai has arrested a journalist Paresh Mishra in online matka scam after his role in the illegal betting game surfaced after a raid on a lottery centre in Grant Road in December. On Wednesday, Mishra was arrested from his residence in Ekta Nagar, Kandivali.

On December 28, the DB Marg police had arrested Ganesh Gawali and Rajesh Gawali from the illegal lottery centre located on MS Ali Road in Grant Road.

45-years-old Parseh Mishra runs a news-tracking agency and is a freelance journalist. He was associated with NDTV, allegedly boasted of his contacts with the police and media to get business for the matka scam.

According to police Paresh Mishra and the Gawlis built a software for the illegal online betting game and sold it to several vendors who operate lottery stores across the city. The vendors used this software to run their own matka syndicates, thus, bypassing the state government and saving thousands of rupees they would otherwise have to pay as taxes.
