A Police Inspector (PI) Namdeo Shinde attached to the Thane police commissionerate has been suspended for allegedly molesting more than a dozen of his women colleagues working under him.

The letter of suspension was issued on February 1. The commissioner of police Param Bir Singh has said, “You are not allowed to take up any private or otherwise job and if it is found that you have taken a job, action shall be taken against you.”

According to police a few constables had complained against Namdeo Shinde to the joint commissioner of police, Makrand Ranade in November 2017 after which an internal inquiry was set up under DCP (HQ) Priyanka Narnavare. On January 24, an FIR was registered against him in Thane Nagar Police under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 (d) (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), she added.

Shinde, a reserve force inspector, had been responsible for the duty roster at the headquarter. He would allegedly ask for sexual favours in order to give the women duty hours of their choice, sources said. He would even touch them inappropriately and would make lewd gestures and comments, one of the constables had said in the original complaint.
