THE Government Medical College situated in Vishnupuri, Nanded city has stirred a controversy over its purchase of surgical dressing i.e. Absorbent Cotton, Bandage Cloth and Gauze etc at more than 3 times higher than the actual market price. The college purchased surgical dressing from outside market but it was duty bound to purchase under Director Medical Education and Research (DMER) as per the Rate Contract.

We are talking about Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Medical College (SCGMC), Nanded. It was established in 1988 after consistence efforts by then Chief Minister of Maharashtra the late Shankarrao Chavan. Later, it was named after him.

As per documents available with ABI (Akela Bureau Of Investigation) SCGMC is duty bound to purchase surgical dressing as per Director of Medical Education and Research (DMER) as per the rate contract but SCGMC violated it and purchased surgical dressing from outside market worth Rs 7 crore. For example SCGMC purchased I.V. set at Rs 14.85 but same is available under RC in Rs 4.86 only. Almost every product was bought at a price higher than its actual market price. Sources revealed college authority took 25 percent commission for this act.

As per record the SCGMC has not placed any single order of Cotton, Bandage and Surgical plaster etc. It is shocking that, how the hospital can run without cotton for last two years.
