TOGETHER with a race for change in names and date of birth, there is an increase towards Religion Change also. Last three years witnessed a threefold increase in Religion Change. Every day two Religion Change application clear as informed by Maharashtra government to an RTI put up by RTI activist Anil Galgali.
Anil Galgali had inquired about number of people opting for change in date of birth, name and religion change to the Maharashtra Government Printing and Publication Directorate in the last three years. The reply was provided by Public Information Officer, A.C Udvant for the year 2014, 2015 and 2016.The figures indicating the threefold increase in Religion Change was really shocking.
247 people opted for religion change in year 2014. 615 got converted in Year 2015 and in year 2016 this number increased upto 797.The number of applications rejected was minimum. Only 33 applications were rejected in year 2014. 60 applications in year 2015 and 45 applications in year 2016.
Total Number of change-of-name applications in Year 2014 is 59,200 & 5750 application rejected. Total Revenue earned from change-of-name applications is Rs 1,48,85,492/-. Total Number of change-of-name applications in Year 2015 is 1,56,477 & 15,480 application rejected. Total Revenue earned from change-of-name applications is Rs 6,87,23,265/-.Total Number of change-of-name applications in Year 2016 is 1,82,977 & 14184 application rejected. Total Revenue earned from change-of-name applications is Rs 8,37,21,464/-
Total Number of change-of-birth date applications in Year 2014 is 1432 & 326 application rejected. Total Revenue earned from change-of-birth applications is Rs 324,091/-. Total Number of change-of-birth applications in Year 2015 is 3481 & 468 application rejected. Total Revenue earned from change-of-birth applications is Rs 14,49,423/-.Total Number of change-of-birth applications in Year 2016 is 3583 & 278 application rejected. Total Revenue earned from change-of-birth applications is Rs 16,07,95.
