MAHADEO Dattaram Waval, Senior Inspector with Vakola police station is not happy with filing complaint against gangster Abu Salem, it seems. He threatened complainant of implicating him in false cases for showing “courage” to lodge the complaint against the jailed gangster’s men.
On March 2, 2017 Abdul Kayyum Tamboli complained against Mahadeo Waval to Commissioner of Police Datta Padsalgikar demanding strict action. A copy of the complaint is available with ABI (abinet.org).
A resident of Santa Cruz, Tamboli (46) is a small time developer and district president of North-Central Minority Cell of Congress. On February 9, 2017 he was campaigning for Congress candidate Dharmesh Vyas in Golibar area for the BMC election. Three unknown people met him near Chimanlal School, Santacruz (East). They introduced themselves as men of gangster Abu Salem and warned him to remain aloof from the election campaign till Salem’s further “order”.
“Unhone mujhse kaha ki we Abu Salem ke aadmi hain. Jab tak Bhai nahin kahte election campaign se door raho,” said Tamboli. (They told me they were Abu Salem’s men. Stay aloof from the campaign till bhai says anything). Tamboli immediate approached Vakola police station and lodged complaint (NC- No-638/2017, section 506) against unknown persons.
What followed after that left Tamboli stunned. On March 1, 2017 Waval called Tamboli in police station. Waval allegedly abused and threatened Tamboli asking how he dared to register complaint against Abu Salem’s men. Waval reportedly said he had got ordered from court to investigae against NC complaint. He will prove that NC complaint was false and he (Tamboli) will be booked under several charges.
“Police station me Mahadeo Waval apni cabin ke bahar dalalon ke saath baitha tha. Mujhe dekhte hi gussa ho gaya. Gali dete hue bola ki teri himmat kaise hui Abu Salem ke aadmiyon ke khilaf shikayat karne ki. Main hota to NC bhi nahin hoti. Maine tumhare khilaf inquiry karne ki court se permission li hai. Uske baad main tumhare khilaf FIR loonga,” said Tamboli.
“Waval ne mujhe gandi-gandi galiyaan di to maine bhi sabke saamne uski insult kar di,” added Tamboli. (Waval verbally abused me so I retaliated).
A policeman recorded statement of Tamboli on NC matter and let him leave the place.
Tamboli claimed that Waval will book him in false cases as a case of revenge. “If police authority failed to take action against Waval I will file a petition in Bombay High Court,” said Tamboli.
