RECENTLY Maharashtra government doubles the penalty rate for overstaying but lack of policy to recovery penalty. Several IAS and government officers have failed to pay the rent for the occupied government quarters they are residing in. Tired of continuous follow ups and reminders, the Public Works Department (PWD) has approached the competent authority court for getting the approximately Rs 92 Lakhs dues which are pending from the bureaucrats who have resided in the government accommodation illegally, informs RTI activist Anil Galgali.

The names of officials who have defaulted the rental dues include IAS officer Kamlakar Fund, senior police officer Ashok Kumar Sharma, general manager of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Rajendra Ahirwar and Sudhir Joshi. They believe they would also get the benefit of the precedent set, Which is now being referred to as ‘Ashwini Joshi Pattern’ in bureaucratic circles.

Recently Maharashtra Government doubles the penalty rate for overstaying from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per square fit. There are 11 bureaucrats who have not yet vacated from the respective accommodation allotted to them earlier despite having been transferred and Retired long time back. To make the matters worse, these punishable penalty dues are of the officer’s who have either retired or transferred elsewhere. Six officers yet to vacate government accommodation after their transfer mainly they as follows. IAS Officer Kamalakar Fund ( Rs 24,15,496/-) , General Manager of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation Rajendra Ahirwar ( Rs 5,96,260), Deputy Collector Dhanaji Toraskar ( Rs 6,04,400) , Sudhir Joshi ( Rs 8,21,852) , Ashok Kumar Sharma (Rs 4,97,335) and Ashok Solankar ( Rs 2,14,847) not pay their dues. Three retired judges namely Prakash Kumar Rahile ( Rs 6,93,085), Prakash Rathod ( Rs 7,96,375) & T M Jahagirdar ( Rs 4,86,036) yet to pay dues. Retired IAS officer Sudhir Khan Apure ( Rs 2,65,545) also not ready to pay their dues.

This singular case of Joshi is now affecting collection of other government arrears, as officers are not readily coming forward to pay their dues. They believe they would also get the benefit of the precedent set, which is now being referred to as ‘Ashwini Joshi Pattern’ in bureaucratic circles. These officers were lawbreakers and demanded that strict action. Who are in service dues should cut from the salary and who are retired their pension should stop by government demand Anil Galgali.
