Vilas Baravkar, a Pune based Right to Information (RTI) activist committed suicide by hanging himself on Tuesday at his residence. Barvakar have left four page suicide note written on Rs 100 stamp paper naming several politicians and IPS officers.

According to Chakan police, Baravkar was found hanging from ceiling fan the wee hours on Tuesday at his residence in Pimpri-Chinchwad, a 40 kilometer away from Pune.

In the suicide notes, Baravkar have mentioned 78 IPS and politicians names that had allegedly harassed him in the past. Some of them are IPS Pratap Dighavakar, Vishwas Nangre Patil, two Dy SPs of Khed divisions, politicians Suresh Gore, Ashok Bhujbal, Kiran Manjre, Krushna Nanekar and former MLA Ram Kandge.

52-year-old Barvakar was reportedly working on issues related to illegal constructions and the collusion of politicians and policemen in permitting unauthorised construction activity.

Barvakar’s suicide has once again highlightedthe issue of RTI activists security.
