THE division bench of Justices Abhay Oka and A S Chandurkar, of Bombay High Court on Tuesday expressed strong displeasure on Maharashtra government for failure to allot a plot of land to a war widow. The court also imposed a cost of Rs 75,000 on bureaucrats.
The court was hearing the petition of 72-year-old Indira Jadhav a native of Pune in Maharashtra whose husband Babaji was a sepoy in the 20 Maratha Light Infantry at Belgaum and died on October 27, 1965, in Laddakh.
Showing unpleasure court reminded the state that the 73-year-old woman wants the land to live there, and “not for luxury”, adding that in 1994, when she was living in an ashram, she feared that after retirement as a teacher, she would have no place to stay.
