THE Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai has arrested on Monday Bhaginath Jagannath Adhav, an assistant police inspector (API) of Goregaon Police station for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a local motor garage owner.

According to press note issued by ACB, the complainant owns two garages under SRA scheme in Goregaon (west). Adhav along with few police staff visited garage five days back and asked complainant to produce the documents of the garage in the police station. On same day complainant visited police station and produced the documents before Adhav. Adhav kept documents with him and asked complainant to come police station two days later.

On February 25, complainant again visited police station. Adhav told him that he was not real owner of the garages. He asked to produce real owner. Adhav allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 for not registering offence against him, if he failed to produce real owner in two days. The complainant searched real owner but failed to do so. He was not willing to pay bribe. On February 28 he approached ACB office and registered complaint against Adhav.

On suggestion of ACB officials complainant bargains with the officer. Adhav agreed to settle the matter on Rs.5000.  On March 1, ACB officials arrested Adhav while he was accepting bribe of Rs 5,000.
