THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has on Tuesday arrested a Cashier/Naib Subedar working in the office of Garrison Engineer(N), Tezpur while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.7,000/- from the Complainant.

According to CBI spokesperson, the Complainant (a Contractor) has alleged in the complaint that the accused used to take commission@ 1.1% on each cheque value and @ 4% on each work order value from him and was demanding the bribe of Rs.7000/- for issuing TDS Certificate to the complainant/contractor for the financial year 2013-14. The complainant did not agree to pay the bribe and approached CBI with a complaint. A case was registered on October 13, 2014 under sections 7 of PC Act and 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act 1988. CBI laid a trap and the accused was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.7000 from the Complainant.

The arrested accused will be produced on Wednesday before the Special Judge CBI, Guwahati (Assam).

In another case, the CBI has on Tuesday arrested a Senior Assistant, Pension Branch, Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT), Mumbai for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.14,000 from the Complainant for releasing the pension cheque.

Searches have been conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused.
