PROBING the multi-crore-rupee Saradha scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested former Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal Rajat Majumder, media reports. Majumdar is allegedly having close links to Saradha Group CMD Sudipta Sen.

Sudipta Sen is already has been arrested.

The Saradha chit-fund scam, wherein lakhs of investors in West Bengal and neighbouring states were defrauded of thousands of crores through illegal money pooling activities.

The scam was came in light in early 2013, also had its political ramifications.

Last month CBI had searches at seven locations in Kolkata, 14 in Assam (12 in Guwahati and 2 in Dhubri district) and one in Mumbai, including at the residence of Assam’s former education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and former Assam DGP Shankar Baruah. Congress MLA from Assam Anjan Dutta’s residences and singer Sadanand Gogoi were also raided.

The government has set up Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) which has submitted its final investigation report to the government.
