CHINDI-Chor don Ravi Pujari has found a new way, a rather cheap way to earn or extort money from people. He has started demanding money from those to who want police protection by giving them fake threatening calls. If a person who is a resident of Ulhasnagar and wants police protection, he just has to go to Ravi Pujari, give him an amount of Rs. 1,00,000. He will give a fake threat call and the person can go to the police, register FIR and get police protection.

The fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari has made a series of threatening phone calls to several high profile legal personalities, Bollywood celebrities and businessmen to get just cheap publicity. This is matter of worry, but the Ulhasnagar police is relaxing. Police is aware that the threatening calls are fake. ABI investigated the matter and found that Ravi Pujari has opened this new business of threatening. Through a mediator he takes Rs. 1, 00,000 to threaten the people.

Last week, a former gangster’s son from Ulhasnagar also got a threat from Pujari. There are other several criminal complaints registered against him. The son of this gangster was very smart. He tapped the conversations and circulated on social media site, WhatsApp to get sympathy. After listening to the conversation one can clearly say that call was ‘fake.’ But he approached the police station and got police protection.

Sources said people in Ulhasnagar, who want police protection contact to an Ulhasnagar businessman. The businessman assures them for threat calls. He asks them to pay Rs. 2, 00,000. The businessman takes Rs. 2, 00,000 and sends Rs. 1, 00,000 to Ravi Pujari through hawala. A little later businessman receives threat calls from Pujari. He goes to the police station, registers FIR and gets police protection. Sources also said that a share from the money goes to a top police official also.

When contacted Thane Police Commissioner Vijay Kamble, he said, “I am in meeting. Call DCP detection.”

Three associates arrested

The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police on Friday arrested three members of Ravi Pujari Gang. The accused were allegedly planning to eliminate a city-based journalist working for an English newspaper. Arrested accused have been identified as Madanchand Govindram Sonkar alias Francis (27), Ashutosh Narendrakumar Verma (22), and Rambahadur Ramchandra Chauhan (27). Police have recovered one 7.65k revolver and five live rounds along with 11 bogus SIM cards.

Sources said the journalist had written an article mentioning Pujari as ‘Chindi-Chor’.

Who is Ravi Pujari?

Chindi Chor (Bhurtya in Marathi), Ravi Pujari is the only active gangster in Mumbai underworld. Pujari is believed to be hiding in Nepal/ Australia now. It is also said that, one of his brothers is a doctor and runs a laboratory in western Maharashtra.

He started off as a criminal at Andheri, Mumbai. He is a school dropout, but speaks various languages like English, Kannada , Hindi and Tulu. He was a small-time criminal till he killed Bala Zalte, a rival. He joined gangster Chota Rajan who developed a liking towards him. He moved to Dubai in the late 1990s.

He often calls up the police claiming to have targeted people close to Dawood or his aide Chhota Shakeel.
