THEN Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (MATS) chief Hemant Karkare’s wife Kavita Karkare died on Sunday in PD Hinduja Hospital at Mahim after she suffered brain haemorrhage. Kavita’s two daughters and son have consented to donate her organs for the treatment of needy patients.

Kavita’s husband Hemant Karkare, died defending Mumbai on November 26, 2008 terror attacks. Karkare was killed on the night of 26/11 near Cama Hospital, along with Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte and senior police inspector Vijay Salaskar.

57-year-old Kavita was admitted on Saturday in P D Hinduja Hospital and Research Centre at Mahim after she suffered brain haemorrhage. It was her son Akash Karkare who rushed her to the hospital. She later slipped into coma. She had severe brain damage due to brain haemorrhage. She was kept in ventilator but not responding to treatment.

According to hospital sources Kavita was brain dead on Sunday but doctors declared her dead on Monday morning.

Kavita’s daughters- Jui Navare and Sayali and son consented to donate her organs for give a new lease of life to two end stage kidney patients and one end stage liver patient.

Kavita’s children also decided to donate their mother’s eyes and skin.
