THE Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) has backed Swami Swaroopanand, the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth, who asked people not to worship Sai Baba of Shirdi as God and advised against building temples dedicated to him.
ABHM said that worshipping Sai Baba is a conspiracy to create division among Hindus.
According to senior leader of the ABHM, Santosh Rai, “You do not find references to Sai Baba in Vedic texts and Sanatana dharma. I support what the swami said. Though I have ideological differences with the Dwarka Peeth seer, I agree with his statement on Sai Baba.’ Dr. Rai said – ‘Muslims would have had the same amount of faith in Sai Baba if he really was a symbol of unity between the Hindus and Muslims.’ The real history of Sai Baba is that, there was a pindari (plunder) named Waharuddin who came to Ahmednagar from Afghanistan. He had two children from a courtesan. One was named Chand Mian and the other was a girl. Chand Mian later became Sai Baba of Shirdi.”
Dwarka Peeth Seer said on Monday that Sai Baba was a human being and not a God. He claimed that Shirdi Sai Baba was not among the 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu and the spiritual leader was not a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Dr. Rai said – “people should stop to say Sai Ram, because Sai Baba was not belongs to any kind of roots of Bhagwan Ram. Worshipping Sai Baba as Sai Ram is a conspiracy to create division among Hindus,” he added.
ABHM also expressed his disapproval over the construction of Sai Baba temples saying that it was merely a way of making money in the name of the spiritual man.
