THE Bihar police claimed Pakistani spy agency Inter-services Intelligence (ISI) might be behind the Kanpur train accidents. Mumbai based Mafia don Dawood Ibrahim had paid goons to plant IED on the railway tracks. Bihar police has sought RAW and NSA’s help in probing the matter.

On November 21, 2016 fourteen coaches of Indore-Patna Express were thrown off track at Pukhrayan, a town around 60 km from Kanpur killing 143 passengers, injured many others in their sleep. Just over a month later, 43 passengers were injured when 15 coaches of Ajmer-Sealdah Express derailed near Rura railway station in Kanpur dehat district, on December 28, 2016.

On January 17, 2017 Bihar police, in an official statement, has stated that the derailments had occurred due to IED blast and ISI and mafia don Dawood Ibrahim. The ISI hand was exposed following the arrest of three criminals Umashankar Patel, Motilal Paswan and Mukesh Yadav from Motihari on the Indo-Nepal border who were working at the instance of an ISI agent. One of them confessed to his involvement in planting explosives to derail the Indore-Patna Express and Ajmer-Sealdah Express trains near Kanpur last year.

Police also stated that the accused were given Rs 3 lakh to blow railway track by a Nepali citizen identified as Brajesh Giri allegedly connected with the ISI for planting a bomb on railway tracks at Ghorasahan in East Champaran district on 1 October last year to cause an accident. The Bihar police has, reportedly send an Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) team to Motihari, for further investigations.
