THE vice president of Shiv Sena at Badlapur city and ex-corporator of Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council in Thane district Mohan Raut was on Friday shot dead by unidentified persons. The police have booked six persons including NCP MLA from Murbad, Kisan Kathore in to the matter.
According to police sources incident occurred around 11.30am at Aptewadi, Katrap area in Badlapur (East). 48-year-old Raut attended his office, he asked his driver to order the tea. The driver had gone to ordering the tea. At that time the shooter entered inside office and shot four rounds of bullets at Raut’s chest. Hearing the bullet’s noise the local persons rushed towards his office. They found Raut was lying in pool of blood. First he was rushed to nearby Dhanvantari hospital. Later doctors referred him in AIMS hospital at Dombivli. Raut was taken AIMS hospital but doctors declared him dead before admission. His body was shifted to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar for postmortem.
Late evening police registered FIR against six persons including Kisan Kathore. A controversial personality Kathore is MLA from Murbad constituency from NCP party. The other accused identified as Ramesh (Bala) Patil, Sameer Surve, Pappu More, Devendra (Kaju) Malusare, Yogesh Raut and Jairam Raut. All accused are absconding.
There was old rivalry between Kathore supporters and Raut. Earlier Raut was associated with NCP but left party for rivalry with Kathore and his supporters. Recently they had lodged police complaints against each-other.
Raut’s wife and his brother’s wife are also Corporators in the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council.
Shiv Sena workers forced shopkeepers to shut down all the shops following the incident. The police in the area have also beefed up security.
Raut had sought police protection. He had applied for protection last month but police did not take serious to his application. Seeing the police negligence he had hired two personal bodyguards. On Friday bodyguards were on the way to join him on first day but before reaching at office Raut was shot dead.
