INDERPALSINGH Marwah alias Satthi, the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) leader on Wednesday has been arrested for demanding and accepting extortion of Rs eight lakh. Satthi was earlier arrested in a robbery case.

Satthi is the vice president of NCP youth wing, Mumbai. His partner and the second accused in the matter, Taranjeetsingh Arora is absconding.

According to complainant Kashinath Dhirendranath (44), he had a SRA schemed flat. Recently he got one more SRA schemed flat through lottery system.

Last week accused Satthi called Dhirendranath at his office. Showing an envelop and letter Satthi told him that SRA department had sent letter for action on him as he has obtained second flat illegally which may land him in trouble and flat may be sealed. Satthi demanded Rs eight lakh extortion to save him from the trouble. He told that he would bribe to SRA (MHADA) officials and he will be safe.

After a little bargaining Satthi reduced extortion amount as Rs four lakh. Dhirendranath paid Rs 35,000 to Satthi. For remaining balance Satthi was continuing calling to Dhirendranath. Fed up with the threatening Dhirendranath decided to report to police.

On Wednesday morning while Dhirendranath was in police station he received Satthi’s call. As per police instruction Dhirendranath got ready to pay Rs 25,000 to him. On Wednesday evening police laid a trap and arrested Satthi while he was accepting Rs 25,000.
“We have booked Satthi under sections 384, 385 and 34 of the IPC. On Thursday he was produced in Kurla court where court remanded him in police custody for two days,” said Rajendra Tikekar, investigation officer.

Sources said Satthi was earlier arrested in robbery case.
