A 32-year-old and one-eyed Ayaz Mohammed Ali Ansari was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly molesting at least 25 minors in the city’s western suburbs area. More than 13 FIRs registered against him in Juhu, Santacruz, D N Nagar, Amboli, Versova, Sion, Vakola, RAK Marg and Antop Hill areas, the police said.
The Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria told media persons that Ansari was molesting since April last year was tracked down near Sacred Heart School in suburban Khar this evening.
The accused was allegedly active since April last year. He was targeted minors aged between 7 to 16 years old. His last victim was a 13-year-old girl, who was assaulted while she was on her way home from school in suburban Sion on April 7.
Ansari also allegedly steals mobile phones and gold chains.
The police picked up and interrogated in the western suburbs alone, over 40 people with eye defects, but in vain. A sketch was drawn based on the description given by victims.
Later, policemen from the D N Nagar police station received information that a suspect resides in the Gilbert Hill area in suburban Andheri, after which the police reached his house.
Earlier in January 2013, Ansari was arrested in a theft case by the Malad police station and was in jail for six months. He randomly targeted minor girls, saying that he knew their fathers. After gaining their confidence, he used to take them to isolated spots and assault them.
