Arvind Kumar, manager of the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Ampati branch on Monday has been kidnapped by three unidentified men at gunpoint in Meghalaya. Officials suspected Kumar has been abducted by tribal militants in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district.

According to police sources while Kumar was going towards his office from Tura, three kidnappers armed with pistols stopped his vehicle and abducted him from the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.

The kidnappers let go the driver.

A top police official confirmed to media about abduction of Kumar. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the abducted Kumar.

Intelligence agencies suspects that it to be the handiwork of the rebels from Garo National Liberation Army or either the A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) – which are operating in the area.

Ampati is about 375 km from the state capital Shillong.
