TWO doctors, including a woman, were arrested by police on Friday after they were found conducting sex determination tests on pregnant women in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district. A case has been registered against both the doctors for violating the PC and PNDT (Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act.

The accused identified as Nirmal Singh and Anu Singh. The accused owns Nirmal hospital on Radaur road in Haryana.

According to Haryana’s Mission Director-National Rural Health Mission the department put up a decoy customer who went along with a decoy patient. A sex determination test was settled for Rs.7, 000 to ascertain the sex of the unborn child. An ultrasound machine had been sealed.

In the second raid at Guddi Clinic and Dhankhad Health Care at Charkhi Dadri, the officials found medicines, MTP instruments and records.

Haryana has one of the worst sex ratios among states in the country at around 870 females per 1,000 males.
