VETERAN journalist and founder editor of Sahakar Sandesh (Hindi) and Town Darshan (Sindhi) publishing from Ulhasnagar Kamal Holaram Pinjani passed away on Tuesday night.

According to his son Ashok Pinjani, his father Kamal Pinjani had been admitted to a private hospital in Mulund due to heart problem. He breathed his last at around 10.10pm on Tuesday.

His last rites performed at Shanti Nagar, Ulhasnagar-3 crematorium on Wednesday.

Many renowned personalities like former MLA Kumar Ailani, Narednra Rajani, Dhananjay Bodare, Annu Manwani, Vishal Gupta, Pappu Behrani, Bachcho Rupchandani attended his funeral and expressed their condolences on his death.

City Journalists and Journalist unions also condoled the death. Dilip Malwankar, Kiran Sonavane, T K Dwivedi “Akela”, Anil Mishra, Vinit Chaturvedi, Mohan Singh Dhami, Raju Gaikwad, Dinesh Gogi, Mahesh Rajput, Padmini Rajput, Dilip Lalwani, Tony Lalwani, Babu Gawali and many attended the crematorium.

68-year-old Kamal Pinjani was a resident of opposite Powai petrol Pump, Ulhasnagar-4. He left his behind wife Laxami (65) two sons-Ashok Pinjani, Kishor Pinjani and daughter Neelam Chhutlani.

Pinjani family is involved in journalism since India-Pakistan partition. Kamal Pinjani’s father Holaram Pinjani had published first Sindhi daily ‘Sindhri’ in Maharashtra. Kamal Pinjani took over Sahkar Sandesh Hindi daily in 1982.The entire country was shock waved when Sahakar Sandesh sub-editor A V Narayan was killed in March 1984 by Ulhasnagar mafia. Sahakar Sandesh was exposing gangsters operating in the locality having links with both politicians and the police.

Later Pinjani started Sindhi daily Town Darshan publishing till date.

Very senior journalist R K Chaturvedi ‘Abodh’ said, “Daredevil and sweet talk Kamal Pinjani had championed the cause of city newspapers.”
