A 34-year-old woman Ujjwala Nilesh Pandya was crushed after a travel ticket examiner (TTE) Sampat Salunkhe allegedly pushed her from a moving Express Train at Jalgaon railway station. After the incident passengers roughed up Salunkhe and later the Jalgaon Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested him.

The incident occurred around 5.52am on Thursday on platform number -3 at Jalgaon railway station. Pandya was a resident of Balajipeth in Jalgaon and was on the way to Khandwa.

According to GRP official Hemraj Ambekar Ujjwala had a general ticket. She was trying to board the air-conditioned coach (AC) of the LTT-Rajendranagar Patna Express (Train No 13202). Her two children boarded the AC coach. Salunkhe told Ujjwala that her tickets entitled them to travel only in a cheaper coach. Her nephew, who had come to see her off from the station, said when she was pushed, the train started to move, she lost her balance and slipped into the gap between the coach and platform. Her body was cut into two pieces as she was run over by the train.

Salunkhe has been arrested under Section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

However, railway authorities told media on basis of CCTV footage that Salunkhe tried to help Ujjwala and her children. He succeeds to get in her children but while he was helping the lady to get in she slipped.

Ujjwala’s relatives alleged that Salunkhe first gave her a hand to pull her inside the coach but then pushed her off.

Sources said that prima facie, it is suspected that Salunkhe who is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj awardees in wrestling was drunk at the time of the incident.

His daughter and niece are also international Kabaddi players. They are also in railway job.
