THE Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Navi Mumbai has arrested two employees of the Sales Tax department, including a woman on Monday for allegedly accepting bribes from a tax consultant.

According to ACB press note the Navi Mumbai unit of the ACB Thane arrested Sales Tax Inspector Rajashri N Deshpande (57), who demanded Rs 500 and Sales Tax officer (class II) Pravin Chandu Shetty (47), who demanded Rs 300 from a tax consultant.

The complainant ran a tax consultancy firm and he wanted VAT registration number from the office of the Sales Tax Office Raigadh Division in Navi Mumbai. When complainant approached the Sales Tax Office for the registration number, Deshpande and Shetty demanded bribes from him, following which he approached the ACB.

A trap was laid in the Sales Tax office at Navi Mumbai and both of them were trapped while accepting bribes.

Offences under Prevention of Corruption Act have been registered against both with the local police station the ACB officials said.
